Safe2Tell is a confidential and anonymous reporting system that allows students, families, and community members to share safety concerns 24/7. Anyone can submit a tip by calling 1-877-542-SAFE (7233), texting S2TCO to 738477 or visiting www.Safe2Tell.org.

Students can report concerns regarding:

Thoughts of self-harm or suicide.
Bullying, harassment or threats.
Weapons, violence or substance misuse.

Every report is reviewed and routed to local law enforcement, the DPS Department of Climate and Safety and school teams to ensure appropriate steps are taken to ensure the student’s safety and connect them to help.

The holiday season and school breaks can be difficult for some students especially when routines change or they feel disconnected from friends and support systems. It’s important to remind students that help is always available.

In addition to Safe2Tell, the resources listed here are free, confidential and available 24/7 to students and families:

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline offers free support for anyone in distress or crisis. Call or text 988, or chat at 988lifeline.org.
Colorado Crisis Services offers immediate mental health, substance use and crisis support. Call 1-844-493-TALK (8255) or text TALK to 38255.
The Trevor Project offers LGBTQ+ youth crisis and suicide prevention support. Call 1-866-488-7386 or text START to 678678.

How Families Can Help

Check In Regularly. Ask open questions like, “How have you been feeling lately?” or “Is there anything stressing you out right now?”
Maintain Routines & Structure. Predictable schedules can help children and youth feel safe and connected.
Encourage Connection. Support social activities like calls with friends, volunteering or participating in family/community traditions.
Model Self-Care. Show that taking breaks, getting fresh air, going for a walk if able and resting are healthy habits for everyone.
Know Where to Turn. Keep this newsletter handy and store the hotlines above in your phone. When in doubt, call a crisis line with questions or access a local emergency room.
